Greece loses World Cup

The FISTF Board have announced that they have decided to organise the Subbuteo World Cup, not in Greece but in another country. Ā The Greek association has agreed to this change. The only justification given for this decision is, the ‘huge problems in Greece nowadays’. Of course there are difficulties in Greece just now as it goes through this period of austerity. But the country wants and needs tourists. It is still a great place to visit.

FISTF have invited member associations to make bids to host this year’s event as well as that of 2014. Associations are being asked for proposed dates, therefore the 2013 World Cup need not take place on the current designated weekend of 13th/14th July. Will the STFA bid for either year? 2013 seems unlikely given the timescale and the current strength of the association. It would require input from all member clubs to create a team strong enough to successfully assist in organising the event.

Changed venue for GP

The venue for the March Grand Prix of Scotland has been changed from the David Lloyd Centre to the Normandy Hotel, Renfrew. The team event will be on the Saturday and Individual on the Sunday.

Burns 9th out of 20 in Manchester

Tom had mixed fortunes in this Manchester tournament on Saturday 12th January. A four round Swiss system was used.

T Burns Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā 2 Ā 1 Ā M Bellefontaine

P Gouveia Ā  Ā  2 Ā 0 Ā T Burns

T Burns Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā 0 Ā 1 Ā E Bellefontaine

C Townsend Ā 0 Ā 2 Ā T Burns

Mike Burns was a late Scottish entry and he finished 4th. Ā The competition was won by former England great Justin Finch. Famously, when he was younger, Justin insured his finger for Ā£50,000! Have a look at this YouTube video of Justin……25,296 views…….not bad but well sort of the 34,321 views of one of our GTSA videos!

Tom Burns enters Manchester tournament

Tom Burns heads for Manchester this weekend to take part in a competition at the English National Football Museum. The event is organised by the newly formed Manchester Subbuteo Club. The tournament has a healthy 40 entries who will be divided into ‘Standard’ and ‘Advanced’ categories. Tom is the only entry from a Scottish club.
