On Sunday 3rd February the Maltings Hotel Cairneyhill will be the venue for event 3 in the Scottish Circuit. GTSA will be represented by Tom Burns, Dave Butler, Colin Day, Willie Fleming and Dave Gladman in Division One and Zoltan Hegedus in Division Two. Dave Butler is joint leader with Steve Bennett on 75 points. Given his current form there must be a real possibility of Butler going clear at the top this Sunday. Burns lies 5th with 61 pts and Fleming 6th with 59 pts. Gladman is 9th with 31 pts and Day 10th with 29 pts, both having played only one event.

 

Zoltan Hegedus is 6th in Division two. He also has played only one event. Baver Bari, a frequent guest at GTSA, is second, 3 points behind Hot Club’s Craig Lynch. With the Edinburgh player absent this weekend the opportunity is there for Bari to go top.

The inaugural STFA Team Championship took place at Telford College, Edinburgh on Sunday 18th November. The competition, contested by six teams, was won by ‘Tayside Artists’ (Greg Dand, Gareth Christie and Steve Bennett). ‘Glasgow Aristocrats’ (Colin Day, Tom Burns and Dave Butler) were 3rd and ‘Glasgow Pirates’ (Barry Corr, Willie Fleming and Dave Gladman) finished 4th.

Did ‘Glasgow Aristocrats’ make a tactical error which cost them runner-up spot? Against ‘Hot Club Suddenly Deadlies’ they chose to play in-form Dave Butler against Dave Allen, probably the Edinburgh team’s weakest player. Surely it would have been better to pit Dave B against Malcolm Lees or Mike Burns, giving Tom Burns a good chance against Dave Allen?
